The Honywood School is an oversubscribed comprehensive school with approximately 997 pupils aged 11-16. We are totally committed to maximising and celebrating pupil achievement. We had an extremely positive Ofsted Inspection in 2000 and our value added statistics consistently place us amongst the best schools in the country. As a result we became a DfES designated Leading Edge school in September 2004.

In September we began life as Honywood Community Science School following a successful bid for specialist status in October 2004. One outcome from the bid will be the creation of six new science laboratories during the course of 2005/2006.

We have made significant investment in other learning resources over the last few years. In 1999 we completed a building programme which included a purpose built Expressive Arts block containing two music rooms, practice rooms and a drama studio.

We have redesigned parts of our school to improve our ICT and Technology facilities as well as our Learning Resource Centre. We currently have a total of five network rooms where pupils can access ICT, the largest of which accomodates up to 32 pupils. All of our classrooms contain interactive whiteboards.

Celebrating pupil achievement is central to Honywood Community Science School. One of the ways in which we do this is through our weekly newspaper, the Honywood Gazette. Whilst academic achievement is extremely important, we also ensure that pupils have opportunities to enjoy other aspects of education. For example, in September 2003 we introduced a vibrant after school curriculum, offering pupils access to activities from Aerobics to Yoga! Every member of staff at Honywood contributes to this programme which has already been attended by more than 400 pupils.
