House System
Honywood School introduced a House System in the Autumn term of 2019. The House System sits alongside our Cohort structure, enabling us to introduce competition and Enrichment across cohorts, whilst allowing the pastoral and academic care to be managed by our Cohort leaders.
The learners and staff were asked to vote for their preferred House names following assemblies to launch the candidates in the autumn of 2019. Our whole community was involved in this process and we were delighted to announce the new Houses of Attenborough. Hawking, Nightingale and Parks. Every member of our school community is in a House and each week we have an update on the House points on screens around our school. The Houses are led by our Lead House Captains, and House Captains, with each Learning group having a Learning Group Captain. Developing leadership in our school is important as part of learners' development.
Throughout the year, competitions take place where learners can be awarded House points. These are wide ranging, enabling all learners to take part. House points are also awarded for attendance, outstanding work in school and achievements outside of the school setting.
Fundraising for charity is an important part of our House system with each House nominating a charity to fundraise for each year. We take part in the Christmas Jumper day each December to raise funds for Save the Children and contribute to local Food Bank charities.
