Are you interested in Initial Teacher Training? Would you like to join our dedicated staff to work in our school in another capacity?
Honywood offers an exceptional environment in which to train to become a qualified teacher, or to take the first steps in working in a nurturing and vibrant school in another role. 70% of our current teaching staff completed their Initial Teacher Training or NQT year here and, over time, many have gone on to secure promotion at middle or senior leader level either at our school or at schools elsewhere.
We offer a uniquely supportive approach to the individuals we recruit with a view to becoming teachers and support staff. We have a long track record of effective in-school training, having worked with a number of Initial Teacher Training providers, including Colchester Teacher Training Consortium, Essex Teacher Training, Greenwich University and The Open University. We offer both salaried and non-salaried training positions and through our links to PLN (Professional Learning Network) we can offer advice as to the various bursaries and financial incentives now on offer.
We supplement the studies that our Initial Teacher Trainees receive directly through their providers with our own bespoke professional development programme that is designed to develop understanding of working at our school specifically, as well as in the wider context of education.
Our provision for Newly Qualified Teachers is also excellent. A 12 week induction programme is run in the first term of the year and is supplemented by a programme of half-termly coaching sessions which are designed to address the identified and emerging needs of the group of teachers with whom we are working. NQTs often make quick progress in their careers and we also continue to develop and support colleagues beyond their first year as they progress to become RQTs (Recently Qualified Teachers).
Our training offer is not limited to teachers alone. We value and seek to augment the excellent contribution our support staff make too. We offer apprenticeship and internship opportunities for those colleagues not yet qualified or ready to start their formal teacher training, or for those who wish to work in a school but in a capacity other than that of a teacher. We are open minded to taking a flexible approach to fit the circumstances of interested individuals this is possible.
We are happy to host Taster Days and School Experience Visits for individuals who wish to spend more time learning about what we do.
