post 16 (CAREERS EDUCATION, INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE)
Here at Honywood we are committed to setting our learners on the most suitable individualised pathways to enhance their employability in order to enable them to compete and flourish in a competitive, fast-moving knowledge-based economy.
In order to achieve this we provide a coherent programme of activities that aims to improve learner self-awareness, enhance interest and aspiration, inform, inspire and motivate young people, and help to prepare them for work and to understand where different education and training choices could take them in the future.
We expect our learners to become independent, mature and empowered, able to make excellent decisions about the lives they lead whilst at our school, as well as learning how to be happy and successful in the lives they will lead on leaving us.
We have close ties to local Post 16 providers in Colchester and Braintree, where our learners are encouraged to visit Open Events and see what pathway will be the most suitable one for them. Some learners transition each year to the Sixth Form College Colchester, to study A-levels. A number of learners, who prefer a different style of learning transition to Colchester Institute to study vocational courses in a variety of subjects such as Engineering, Music technology, Dance and Media (some of these courses are also available at the Braintree campus). Other learners transition to a variety of colleges and School Sixth forms such as Writtle College (particularly if they are interested in animals/agriculture), Chelmsford College, Braintree 6th Form, Suffolk One and of course others go to local Grammar Schools. A growing number of learners are aiming for an Apprenticeship, which are available in conjunction with local/national providers. Learners are encouraged to visit and apply to as many colleges as possible to ensure that when they leave Honywood, they have made fully informed choices about the most suitable pathway for them.
Careers Education, Information and Guidance (CEIAG) is an essential part of the curriculum at Honywood School.
